Roofing

Roofs are the part of a building that is most exposed to intense elements (fluctuating temperatures, intense sunlight, hail, rain or even strong winds), all of which gradually damages a roof over time. The life of a roof depends on the type of material used, the weather, the orientation and other factors.

How to Fix Roof Vents
Check for cracked housings on plastic roof vents and broken seams on metal ones. You might be tempted to throw caulk at the problem, but that solution won’t last long. There’s really no fix other than replacing the damaged vents. Also look for pulled or missing nails at the base’s bottom edge. Replace them with rubber-washered screws. In most cases, you can remove nails under the shingles on both sides of the vent to pull it free. There will be nails across the top of the vent too. Usually you can also work those loose without removing shingles.

TYPES OF ROOFING

METAL SHAKES

Metal slatted ceilings were created by experts to perfectly capture the look of real wood with the protective benefits of steel. Thick construction, deep grooves and realistic grain patterns combine to create dramatic shadows and visual richness.

ASPHALT

Asphalt shingles are made of fiberglass sandwiched between asphalt and ceramic granules. The fiberglass provides the strength, while the asphalt, often mixed with minerals, is waterproof. The ceramic granules give shingles their color and also help deflect UV light, and its damaging effects.

SLATE ROOFING

Nothing matches the enduring beauty and old world sensibility of a slate roof. As enduring as it is, it takes a skilled craftsman to correctly install and repair. If you are considering a new slate roof or repairing an existing slate roof, we are your local Portland roofing specialist.

TPO

TPO roofing membranes consist of an ethylene or polyethylene thermoplastic bound to ethylene propylene rubber. Also is recyclable and environmentally friendly. Its reflective surface reduces UV radiation and helps with energy efficiency.
